Stanger said it’s important to keep the academic calendar as planned, but planning ahead is just as important as university reopenings during the coronavirus pandemic. Final exams will be held in December.

“This is going to be a big project,” Stenger said in a live news conference. “We need to know how students are social distancing in the bathroom, how to determine which classes students can take in person and which classes will continue remotely. “
Stanger said he believes the university will have a fully operational and detailed plan to reopen the campus by mid-June, and that social distancing warnings will change the way students live and learn on campus.
He said that the possibility of learning together is the future of students. One day, students may be in the classroom and the next day – for the same class – they may be learning remotely.

Stenger said the university is asking faculty whether they prefer to learn online or continue learning remotely, or strike a balance between the two.
According to Stenger, there is no way to know if there will be a second wave of the virus, so all students are allowed to stay on campus during the break.
In a statement released before Wednesday’s announcement, he said about 500 faculty, staff and students will also return to the Vestal campus by the end of May.

In early March, Governor Andrew Cuomo said all SUNY and CUNY campuses would have to go online starting March 19. Limiting in-person classes across the 64-campus SUNY system, including its community colleges, is intended to ease overcrowding. When Cuomo ordered the change, he said people in every area had to slow the spread of the virus.
After Stanger’s announcement, Cuomo’s office said it was premature to announce any reopening date, saying any reopening would be based on science and data on the spread of the coronavirus at this time.
Colleges and universities will be included in New York’s progressive reopening plans, Cuomo’s office said in a statement.

The recovery team was formed while the students were off campus and included medical and public health personnel, Stinger said. His role was to guide the university on how to benchmark its reopening against other universities across the country.
He said that the team has also been tasked with evaluating various scenarios that would help bring students and teachers back to the university.

“One benefit of all these meetings is learning; we all share the same problems with potential solutions,” Stenger said in a statement. “I have also found that Binghamton University is, in many ways, close to being at the forefront of evaluating and planning for a safe reopening.”
After Cuomo visited Binghamton last week, Stenger said it was clear the university needed more than the RTN team, so the university now has 15 task forces of about 100 people tasked with hundreds of tasks. Planning responsibility is delegated to those required for the responsibility of a safe. Reopening
Stanger said it will take about four to five weeks to implement the scenarios and test what will work before reopening in the fall.
