Ecu Fall 2023 Schedule – Michigan’s long and winding road to eternal college football glory for the 2023 season begins tomorrow with one of three non-conference tracks. First up on the schedule is the East Carolina Pirates, which is the first meeting between ECU and the Wolverines. The Pirates are from the American Athletic Conference and are coming off a strong 8–5 mark, although it does not meet the program’s expectations for the year. Now the expected decline has occurred, as the Pirates suffered major losses on both sides of the ball in the offseason: Bill Connelly ranked ECU 130th out of 133 teams in production returns in February, and that was before they were released via the Mail Portal. And more were lost. – Spring. This team is completely different.
Mike Houston is a great coach who has won everywhere from Lenoir-Rhyne (DII), The Citadel (FCS), James Madison (then-FCS) and now East Carolina. ECU was 9-27 in the three seasons before Mike Houston arrived and it took a few more years. They went 4-8 in 2019, then 3-6 in the COVID-shortened season. Following the pandemic, ECU Houston earned bowl eligibility with a 7–5 season (the Military Bowl was never played due to BC’s withdrawal following the virus outbreak). They were set to enter 2022 with veterans throughout their roster, but once again had a poor season going 7–5 and losing games by 1, 2, and 3 points. A season-ending bowl victory over nearby Coastal Carolina did nothing to ease the misery heading into the 2022 season.

ECU’s defensive strength appears to be their defensive line. On a team with a lot of instability and new faces, the Pirates have three starters on the DL who have better profiles as run defenders than rushers. Last season the team ranked 21st nationally in rushing yards per game allowing 118.9, and they will look to use their experience to build on that this season.
Ecu Football Releases 2023 Schedule, Opens At Michigan
East Carolina runs a 3-3-5 formation, with an EDGE rusher you can count as a fourth DL if you want. Chad Stephens, who plays an EDGE position while keeping his hands on the ground, weighs in at 261, along with a pair of defensive tackles, lightweight Elijah Morris (264) and big D’Anta Johnson (294). Their reserves are also very experienced, including NT veteran Jason Shuford (6’4, 322), who I think will be useful for short yardage and run-out situations. When you consider EDGE rusher Jeremy Lewis is better as a run defender than a rusher, you had a very strong unit against Group 5 offenses last season.
Of course, we’re talking about Michigan here, not your typical Gof5 offense. And while Morris and quarterback JD Lampley have proven to be solid FBS football players, it’s hard to imagine they’ll be able to hold their own against a big Michigan team. Now, ECU wants to do what most 3-3-5 teams want their DL to do, hang up the phone and let their quarterback go. ‘Work. They may be annoying, but it’s hard to see them actually winning the fight.
Which focuses on the midfielders which are Pirates’ weakness. The LB room was destroyed in the offseason, leading to a flurry of FCS moves, the return of rarely used players, and a move down from P5. South Carolina State’s BJ Davis and Taylor Jackson (the only LBs to record over 100 snaps last year) could start at Will and Mike, respectively, but I’m not sure how that’s setup. Both these players will undergo a baptism of fire tomorrow, but the same applies to their reserve players as well. When ECU selected an EDGE rusher for a true SAM, it was UNC transfer Rara Dilworth, a former blue chipper who had a poor performance last season and was drafted out of the ACC. If you’re DC Blake Harrell, you might not feel comfortable putting on so many lbs, but that’s when the defensive lineman weighs 260 lbs. Against Jack Zinter, you have no choice. This may not be good for your safety.
Ecu Welcomes New Faculty Members To Campus
Main match: IOL Michigan vs. Small DT. We saw this matchup a number of times last year, perhaps the most famous of which was Nebraska. IOL Michigan plays against teams with excellent DTs and often shuts out opponents in front. If that happens to ECU, there would be a huge benefit to having Blake Corum and Donovan Edwards on the field, given the state of their LB room.
If Michigan wants to get rid of JJ McCarthy and show there will be more of a focus on the passing attack in 2023, this game will likely be a good opportunity for them to do so. ECU was so efficient at producing sacks last season that their secondary literally imploded in the offseason. Despite several receiver hits, the home team should have no problems running the ball on the Pirates’ defense tomorrow.
The only defensive line mentioned earlier in the division was much stronger than the previous season. He didn’t do it at all to create a rush to pass. The team ranks middle of the FBS in sack rate, but the reality may be worse: PFF ranks ECU 125th in team pass rush rate. For example, Jeremy Lewis, their EDGE rusher, is a much better player against the run and does not provide much of a pass rush, despite being a dominant presence in his hybrid role. Ecu Men’s Basketball 2022 2023 Schedule
Best pass rusher among EDGE last season. They’ll probably attack their LBs and DBs because that’s what a 3-3-5 defense does, but I don’t see much potential for an organic pass rush. In some ways this would be a proper first litmus test for the Michigan engine, because if the ECU is experiencing biological stress, that would be a bad sign.
In the secondary, ECU returns two starting safeties, Teagan Wilk and Julius Wood. They traded third safety last season, so this isn’t their first rodeo. The bad news is that all the running backs are new and the top four cornerbacks from last season are lost. Former cornerback Shavon Revel could have the starting cornerback job, while other jobs may be on the roster. Isaiah Brown-Murray is only 5’9” and redshirted last season, so good luck continuing that. Another option is again a combination of FCS increase and P5 decline. For many (all?), their trip to the Big House is a dose of their first real FBS action.
Key Match: Fresh WR vs WR Patchwork Group Five Secondary. Let’s be real here. Michigan’s starting WR could probably trouble those guys, especially when McCarthy has plenty of time to throw to him. The purpose of these types of games is to look at players at the bottom of the depth chart and we’ve heard a lot of good things about Michigan’s new receivers in camp, with promise of playing time in the opener. Let’s see them against this hodgepodge DB group!
Ecu Unveils Full 2023 Football Schedule
ECU was raided after spring practice in the OL (shouldn’t the Pirates be raided?) and as a result, their blocking situation is probably worse than it could have been. Once all the smoke cleared, only one returning OL starter, utility RG Isaiah Foote, was visible from the wreckage of the sunken pirate ship. Injuries have changed things in the OL rotation ($), but the player pool at OL for ECU probably includes a nice USF transfer (Dustin Hall), last year’s sixth man, a walk-on for the program guy, RS Meister, and Will be. Then burst. Aah.
East Carolina’s OL from last season ranked 100th in several run blocking metrics in Football Outsiders statistics and this group will likely be much worse. It would be surprising if he gets a push against Michigan’s defensive interior as well as an EDGE player who has been playing so well. This is a long way of saying that I think you should say some prayers right now for the well-being of this moment.
The running backs are filling a huge hole left by departed star RB Keaton Mitchell and will likely do the job in some form of tandem. These players were a bit behind Mitchell last season and may not have the mental agility required to have a meaningful day on the field if their blockers are fed up with crocodiles.
