Figure Skating Winter Olympics 2023 – With the new Covid pandemic affecting all major sports leagues, the NHL has decided not to have its players participate in the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics.
The 16-year-old successfully competed for her spot and will join national champion Maria Bell and runner-up Karen Chen to represent Team USA at the 2022 Winter Olympics in Beijing next month. The women’s triples team was finalized Saturday afternoon, a day after the women’s competition at the United States Figure Skating Championships.

“I’ve trained harder this season than ever before,” Liu told a news conference he joined remotely from his Nashville hotel room. “I’m very happy with the decisions I made [in my career] because obviously they were all good, because now I’m here. Yes, I’m very happy to go with Maria and Karen. .”

Meanwhile, Lindsey Thorngrenhaus has been named as the first alternate for Beijing – a role that could be crucial this year, given the COVID-19 concerns surrounding the Games.
The rest of the U.S. figure skating team, which includes three men, three skating teams and two pairs, will be announced Sunday.
For the ladies, Saturday’s announcement was years in the making, but not entirely surprising. With Brady Denell (injury) and Amber Glenn (Covid-19) ruled out, Bell, Chen and Liu are considered the top three skaters in the U.S. women’s field.

Both Liu and Bell, 25, are making their Olympic debuts, while Chen is second. The 22-year-old finished 11th at the 2018 Winter Games.
None of the three American skaters are expected to medal in the Russian-dominated Beijing women’s competition. But Liu, a two-time national champion before her 15th birthday, could represent the United States’ best shot at the summit.
A native of California, Liu is one of the few American women to land the famous triple Axel in competition. After testing positive for Covid-19 on Friday morning, he was forced to withdraw from nationals between the short program and the free skate. He said he was fine on Saturday and watched his free ride from his hotel room while talking to friends on FaceTime.

“It’s fun to watch,” Liu said, “I don’t usually watch matches, especially with my friends. So I enjoy watching a match with my friends.”
Liu said he will remain in Nashville until he examines the negative. To go to Beijing, she must pass such tests.
Bell is believed to be the oldest female figure skater to make the U.S. team in an individual competition since the late 1920s. On Saturday night, he won his first national championship in nine attempts to seal a berth in the Olympics.

“I never thought I would make it this far in my career,” he said. “Of course, I’ve always dreamed of making the Olympics and winning the Olympics, but (I thought) ‘That’s tough, I don’t know if I can do it.’
Chen looked confident and happy as he took to the ice with a small smile, skating to Elton John’s “Rocket Man” and “Penny and the Jets.” Her performance won praise from team officials and other Olympic athletes on the field.
A fifth-place finish at the PyeongChang Olympics cast a shadow over Chen heading to Beijing. But since hitting the ice at the 2022 Winter Games, Chen has proven she’s overcome those demons and the intense pressure she faced this week — and then some.

Hanyu’s huge fan base in China was even visible in the few people in the stadium. Hundreds of local fans cheered loudly every time the Japanese star jumped. Even in the heat, the 27-year-old’s moves captivated the audience and his tumble drew cheers from the crowd. Fans stood outside the stadium with signs and phones at the ready, hoping to see him get out of their cars.
Hanyu attempted to make history by landing a difficult and unworkable pre-competition quadruple axel, in which the skater turned the jump 4.5 but failed.
The highly regarded Chen said the former gold medalist “improved the game in many ways.” Despite Hanu’s failure, Chen said Thursday’s quad axel landing attempt was “very important to watch.”

The extremely difficult quadruple jumps, in which skaters launch themselves into the air, complete four complete turns in a second or less, and then land gracefully on one leg, have become the benchmark of excellence. Gold and silver medalists in the women’s free skate combined with seven quad jumps at the Beijing Olympics. Men’s freestyle skiing gold medalist Nathan Chen pulls off five different quads in his routine.

Mirai Nagasu told the New York Times, “Now you need a quad to win an Olympic medal. “It seems crazy to me, but it’s true.” In the year In 2018, Nagasu became the first American woman and the third woman overall to land a triple ax at the Olympics. First performed by Norwegian skier Axel Poulsen in 1882, the ax differs from the quad in that the skates face forward. A quad usually starts with the ski going backwards.
What makes quad jumping fun and challenging? It depends on the physics of the human body, said Dagmar Sternat, the university’s biology professor and director of the Northeastern Action Lab.
While humans can only jump two feet in the air, athletes can jump twice as high because they direct their muscles in a vertical direction, explained Sternat and Alexey Krotov, bioengineering doctoral students working at LabAction. With such an effort, they still spend less than a minute in the air.

To perform a quad jump, skaters must reach that height and generate enough torque to spin four times.
“When athletes start jumping, they press their toes into the ice,” Grotov said. “This cycle can start immediately.”
After lifting off the ground, skaters pull their outstretched arms tightly across their chests, lower their legs, and ski with their entire body, reducing their range of motion as much as possible to the spin portion.

The amazing thing is that compared to other popular games, the technology of virtual reality gaming devices hasn’t changed much over the years, Sternat said. The leaves on the skis are arranged to go to the center by creating two high edges on both sides. The clothes have definitely changed. But compared to a sport like gymnastics — where everything from uneven bars to floor is improved in the spring — skiers have to contend with more forgiving snow than ever before.
