Newman, Ph.D. , and NAACAP Image Award-winning actor Morris Chestnut — will serve as speakers for the spring 2023 commencement, university officials announced today.

Since joining the NC A&T College of Science and Technology (COST) in 2012, he has received more than $15 million in exceptional research funding from the National Institutes of Health, National Science Foundation, and Department of Defense, including R01 and SC1. Newman is also committed to excellence in the classroom, having developed graduate and undergraduate courses to help students better understand and apply biological concepts. During her classes, one of her main goals is to help students transition successfully from passive to active learning styles.
