September is a great month for fashion. At this time of year, fashion capitals come alive with live presentations of next year’s Spring/Summer collections. Even for those eyeing social media and online fashion reports right now, that sense of excitement is like another year of fashion unfolding, but it’s very palpable. Fashion powerhouses – from New York to London, Milan and Paris – are set to make powerful statements on the runways, with larger-than-life presentations each September. For example, Gucci was surprised at a show where many twins walked the catwalk. In New York, Fendi’s iconic baguette bag brought all the fashion greats to the front row. They include Sarah Jessica Parker and Kate Moss to name a few. Recently in Milan, Dolce & Gabbana made headlines with a collection in collaboration with Kim Kardashian.
Summer Collection 2023
Apart from the big shows and mega fashion shows, emerging brands also make their debut at Fashion Week. For the wandering, adventurous, fashion-watchers, the essence of September’s style is very much about spotting up-and-coming, under-the-radar designers. Even though we’re just a few weeks away from PFW, this roundup of the most exciting emerging brands has already indicated that the future of fashion is in full bloom.
Celebrities At The Dior Men’s Spring 2023 Venice Beach Show
KRIS MARAN is a family-owned brand based in Ukraine run by Christina Maria and Anna Stelmak. Launched in 2018, the fashion brand is dedicated to “creating an everyday wardrobe, empowering women and reminding them of their innate sensibility”. In February of this year, KRIS MARAN, along with a number of other Ukrainian companies, had to stop production.
Two months into the war, the KRIS MARAN team decided it was time to pick up the pieces and “save their baby costumes.” The team explains: “It was a very difficult decision for Ana and Christina. The whole team fought for the new collection under the sound of sirens to keep the brand going. Sometimes they hid under shelters. But love for the brand overcame fear.”
KRIS MARAN’s debut was seen at Helsinki Fashion Week, which ended with a show of daring and commitment. The Townless Spring/Summer 2023 collection finds the perfect balance between feminine and masculine, strength and elegance. Along with poems by Edgar Allan Poe and Deep Water, the collection speaks the truth about the human spirit and relationship with nature.

The Spring/Summer 2023 collection by Palmer/Harding represents the symbiosis of two design paths that meet at the crossroads. Run by designer duo and Central Saint Martins alumni Matthew Harding and Levi Palmer, the London-based brand is a darling in die-hard fashion culture circles. Since its debut in 2011, Palmer/Harding has seamlessly woven together calculated structure, fluid drapes, and deconstruction. The result: “interesting clothes for interesting people.”

For Spring/Summer 2023, the collection unleashes the independent creative inclinations of two minds with different creative processes and approaches. Creative partnerships and new forms follow “a two-piece knot play, a way of securing draperies that move single panels together, creating a symbiotic harmony.” Standout pieces pulled from the most intriguing design process include oversized faux leather denim jackets, sexy T-shirts and brick red poplin day dresses. A navy and white designer shirt with fringing to balance structure and movement. In true Palmer/Harding fashion, the collection elevated daywear to a fashion moment.

The authors’ notes read: “The collection is a literal exploration of the Palmer/Harding creative process. It can also be seen as an emotional narrative—a story about how personal expectations create unnecessary tension, how we let go of preconceived notions, open up new possibilities and ways of doing things.” By opening ourselves up, we learn to let go, distract ourselves and become liberated.
Agthonis Street founder Yanling Sha Ou Seal never shies away from drama. Through her larger-than-life creations on the runway, she shares a passion for theater, acting, and allegories of history. A stunning mix of tweed and metallic gingham with sequins make up the Spring/Summer 2023 collection that pays homage to Queen Elizabeth II. In an Instagram post last Sept. 13, the team wrote, “Her incredible style, charm and sense of fun were evident in everything she did. Her passion and commitment to supporting young designers will continue to inspire the next generation and many more after that.”

For the brand’s spring/summer collection, Beyond Imagination, the opulent setting of the Corinthia Ballroom was the perfect setting for a powerfully feminine collection of mini dresses, coordinating, tiered skirts and gowns. Every runway look echoed the new voice of youth, sophistication and cool. There was a hilarity to the set that also included “a new path to creativity and confidence”. Just like when the brand first launched, Beyond Imagining asks everyone in the fashion community to awaken their inner rock star, or better yet, their inner royalty.
