Summer Reading 2023 – The Summer Reading Challenge is a free program that encourages children and teenagers to read during the school holidays to prevent summer reading loss, when countless students can lose up to three months of reading gains. The summer loss is cumulative. Children who lost their reading skills during the summer are three years behind their classmates by the end of the fifth grade. The library offers incentives such as fun prizes and activities in exchange for reading.
This year’s theme, All Together Now, encourages youth and families to enjoy fun and engaging programs and activities for kindness, friendship, unity, cultural awareness and being active members of their community. Kids of all ages can take part in the challenge and earn points by reading books, completing fun activities and participating in virtual programs all summer long.
