The Knights need just three non-conference games once in the Big 12 conference starting next season, one less than needed in the AAC.
Although the Big 12 has an extra conference game, one of the three non-conference games must be against a Power Five opponent.
By adding Villanova, UCF will not meet that requirement. The Knights have received approval from the Big 12 for that to happen, a UCF spokesperson told the Orlando Sentinel on Saturday.

Four of those games will be played at UCF’s home field. The structure will begin in 2024, UCF athletic director Terry Mohajir previously said.

Which teams UCF will face in its first season in the new conference may be decided sooner rather than later, but only after the Big 12 leadership visits the three departing AAC schools (Houston and Cincinnati).
“They’ve already done BYU because they’re not in a football league,” Mohajir said in June. “This summer or this fall, maybe you’ll start to see a little bit — maybe not exactly a graph, but at least a shape, whether there’s a split or no split.”
