Umich Fall 2023 Calendar – University Insider is The Daily’s flagship faculty and staff newsletter. This weekly newsletter gives UM faculty and staff an opportunity to see the most important issues on campus and in Ann Arbor from the perspective of an independent news organization, particularly those related to administrative decisions. It will also help you better understand your students’ perspectives.
The University of Michigan Board of Trustees unanimously approved the updated schedule for the 2023-2024 academic year at its Feb. 16 meeting. This updated academic calendar means that the Winter 2024 semester will move from January 3 to January 10, extending the university’s winter break by one week. The last day of the exams was postponed for a week from April 25 to May 2. Fall 2023 semesters will not be affected.

In a University Record article published Monday, University Chancellor Laurie McCauley said the schedule change was made after hearing feedback from the campus community and hearing some students wanted a longer winter break.

“The University of Michigan prides itself on providing a rigorous academic environment, but that also means our students and faculty work hard throughout the academic year,” McCauley said. “The feedback we heard from the campus community about wellness gave us pause and thought we could do more with the academic calendar to address these issues.” Experience+ is a partnership designed to promote Dearborn. Experience+ also supports the Summer Undergraduate Research Experience (SURE) and aims to enhance and enhance the undergraduate research experience of UM-Dearborn students. The SURE program offers current students the opportunity to engage in individual research projects under faculty mentorship while learning about research-oriented careers.

TechTutor is here to help! Whether it’s homework, Excel problems, or general help with software and tools like Office and Google suites, Adobe Photoshop, InDesign, and Illustrator, TechTutors will work with you to solve your problems. The Wolverine Mentor Collective (Wolverine MC) is an exciting new mentoring program that enhances your student experience by connecting you with current Wolverines or UM-Dearborn alumni. This mentor is someone who is invested in your success and is willing to listen, encourage, and help you overcome challenges and recognize opportunities. You’ll learn what to expect from the school, get career advice and valuable insights, and mentors will build and develop your professional and leadership skills.
Umich Chinese Online Tutoring
Is a digital storytelling project that recently received a $25,000 grant from the Coalition for Transforming Lives Education. The project provides students with paid experiences in media and other digital technologies, challenging myths about metro Detroit’s Dearborn, while exploring their own identity, purpose, and community through introspective storytelling. Experience Plus enhances both the diversity and competitiveness of UM students applying for top national scholarships and grants, while helping all applicants become self-aware leaders and citizens with concrete plans to challenge the present and transform the future.
The UM-Dearborn Graduate Summer Camp is an opportunity for graduate and doctoral students to work with faculty and staff professionals over the summer and develop academic and professional writing skills in small peer writing support groups between conferences. The School of Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE) runs undergraduate degrees in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering and Robotics and dual degree programs in Electrical and Computer Engineering. The ECE department also oversees four graduate programs of M.S.E., Doctoral Program in Electrical, Electronic and Computer Engineering and Ph.D. in Electrical and Computer Engineering. Our undergraduate programs currently enroll over 550 students. Each year, approximately 60-70 students graduate from our ECE program with a bachelor’s degree, and approximately 50 students graduate from one of our programs with a master’s degree.
It boasts a high retention rate of over 60%. Most graduates work in industry, often in design and development environments, but some pursue full-time graduate studies at regional and national universities.
In 2023, our online master’s degree in Electrical Engineering was recognized by OnlineMastersDegrees.org (OMD) as one of the best in the country, and only 6% of higher education institutions in the country achieved the classification.

The Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering currently offers several graduate programs in electrical engineering. This new certificate has been developed to meet the evolving needs of the energy and electrical sector and to enable industry professionals to gain experience in specific areas such as:
Each certificate consists of three courses (nine credits per certificate), all of which are considered cumulative and may be applied toward a master’s degree in electrical engineering if the student successfully applies and is accepted into the degree-granting program. Applicants to each of these certificate programs must have a bachelor’s degree in engineering with an overall GPA of 3.0 or higher. A maximum of two cumulative certificates are available for ECE postgraduate programs.
